Impact

The TRU Community Trust’s mission is to benefit Thompson Rivers University and its communities. As such, all net profits generated through Trust land development are returned to the university to be endowed in perpetuity. The income from these endowed funds is distributed on an annual basis to students for scholarships and bursaries and to further research activities.

As of 2020, $5.5 million has been distributed to TRU and the TRU Foundation. These funds have already helped hundreds of students through scholarships and bursaries. Future distributions will add to the endowments and those students who will benefit.

Impact

The broader economic impact of Trust development is also substantial, contributing hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars both directly and indirectly to the Kamloops region. Development at The Reach Neighborhood has already generated an estimated $45 million in construction output, including $18 million in labour income. With new projects underway, this number will continue to grow in coming years.
